Public library executive director John Oliver Gonzales said fun and entertainment are in store for the community as the library continues to entice more people to come and make use of its resources.
The library has sections that cater to people of all ages from toddlers, young children, teens and adults.
“We would like to make the public library a place where families can gather and spend quality time together,” Gonzales said.
This year’s theme is “Communities thrive @your library.”
Gonzales is inviting more people to come and gather for book discussions, for story time with their children, to volunteer or look for volunteer work.
The library is closed on Monday but the activities, which include open house, quizzes and puzzles, activities at the Homework Center, book display, read aloud and crafts, will start today, Tuesday.
Gonzales said there will be a movie night from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Friday, and a family fun day on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 12 noon.
“We would like to invite everyone to take part in our daily activities and on the family fun day on Saturday,” Gonzales said.
Among the events on Saturday are a mini-carnival, free giveaways, exhibits, Matua Riders, MHS-Chamorro Club, open house tour, recognition of donors and benefactors, and a book sale.
In preparation for the Library Week celebration at the Joeten-Kiyu National Library, the Matua Riders cleaned the surroundings on Saturday morning, cutting bushes and blasting the cement with water.
Matua Riders vice president Vince Lizama told the Variety that they used their own equipment such as bush cutters. The used of the other equipment was donated by Island Rental Equipment, he said.
Lizama said since the Matua Riders club was launched on January, they have been busy doing volunteer jobs for the community whenever their help is needed.
Gonzales is urging the community to avail of the services of the bookmobile and homework assistance services.
