DYS recognizes 20 youth leaders

DYS coordinator Vivian Sablan said the 20  were chosen from 10 organizations and schools, and are from 12 to 25 years old.

“They will be working closely with DYS as a liaison for other youths in the community on DYS-or community-sponsored events,” Sablan told the Variety.

She said the youth leaders, whose names will be announced today, will  join the DYS team during the Liberation Day parade, and assist in the two youth summer camps scheduled for July and August.

Sablan said this is the first time that the DYS sent nomination criteria to schools and organizations in selecting the student leaders.

Next year, she said DYS will have another batch of student leaders but they hope to retain the group selected this year.

Sablan is also urging parents to register their children six to 13 years old for the first youth leadership summer camp which will be held from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., July 19-31, at the Kagman Community Center.

The second youth leadership summer camp is slated for Aug. 2 to 21 at the Ada Gymnasium in Susupe. An insurance coverage of $5 is required per child, per camp.

Each youth summer camp is open to the first 200 participants.

Sablan said interested parents can pick up registration forms at the Tanapag Youth Center, the DYS main office, the Arts Council or the Ada Gymnasium.

Early this month, Lt. Gov. Eloy S. Inos signed a proclamation declaring June to August “Youth Leadership Months.”
