Education board OKs Head Start action plan

The board agreed to carry out that the Head Start’s recommendations.

Education Commissioner Rita Sablan said Head Start urged PSS to take action on five key areas and make sure the local Head Start complies with the requirement in hiring teachers.

This means PSS should provide the kind of training the U.S. Head Start requires.

PSS was also asked about its recruitment for children with disabilities.

Ten percent of the local Head Start’s student population must be children with disabilities.

Sablan recalled that the monitoring team visited the CNMI last February to review the performance of the local Head Start program.

“It was a comprehensive review of the different services provided to our children by Head Start,” Sablan said,

The monitoring team looked at how the local Head Start managed its human resources, fiscal affairs,  educational, disability and family components as well as its other services.
