Claretian Publications publishes works that promote a renewed spirituality rooted in the process of total liberation and solidarity in response to the needs, challenges and pastoral demands in the church today.
“Towards a Theology of the Chamoru” is based upon the historical development of religious expressions and the spirituality of the Chamorro people of the Marianas from missionary conquest to colonization, and gives a clear historical portrait of the disposition of Pacific Islanders in the midst of competing militaristic positioning and geo-politics. “Towards a Theology of the Chamoru” is Diaz’s attempt to paint a portrait of his people’s experience, grounding himself in Scripture and tradition of the Roman Catholic Church and Catholic Social Teaching. The book is based upon his research and writings of other organic intellectuals in Oceania and world renowned Roman Catholic theologians.
Jonathan Blas Diaz received a master of arts degree in systematic and philosophical theology from the Graduate Theological Union and the Franciscan School of Theology in 2003 and a bachelor of arts degree in English from St. John’s Seminary College in 1999.
