Foundation project director Rose Smith said they visited the Dandan, Kanat Tabla, Kagman, Tanapag and San Roque to distribute school supplies to children from low-income families.
This afternoon, Smith said they will distribute school supplies at Oleai Elementary School.
Smith said they were given a list of about 300 children who need school supplies at Oleai.
“The actual number of school supply packs we will distribute today will determine the final list of those who will qualify to receive the school supplies,” Smith said.
“We want to distribute these school supplies to children whose parents cannot afford to buy these important educational tools,” she added.
To qualify, parents must show proof that they belong to the low-income bracket or are receiving food stamp assistance from the government.
“Anyone who qualifies can come to our office and we will be glad to distribute school supplies to their children who are students,” Smith said.
A school supply pack consists of pencils, pens, coloring pencils, Crayons, markers, writing pads, notebooks, filler paper, rulers, glue, erasers, sharpeners, scissors and backpacks.
Smith said donations are still pouring in. Since it started its operations on Saipan, the Empty Vessel Ministry has been distributing school supplies to at least 500 elementary and high school students each year.
“We are very thankful to our generous donors who have supported us in our campaign to help the children of Saipan,” Smith said.
Among the donors are the Pacific Islands Club, Fiesta Resort & Spa, AON Insurance, Western Union, National Office Supplies, Modern Stationery, the Mobile gas station in Garapan Middle Road, and the Redeem Christian Church of God.
You may also drop your donations at the Empty Vessel Ministry Foundation office in Gualo Rai across from EZ Market or at the Empty Vessel booth at the Garapan Street Market on Thursdays.
