Engineers, architects group vows to share skills with community

Bong de Guzman, Marianas Association of Filipino Engineers and Architects president, said their organization will “be lending our hands in the best way that we can to be of help to this community.”

During the induction of their officers and board of directors on Saturday at the Fiesta Resort and Spa, De Guzman also encouraged MAFEA members to “uphold professionalism and enhance the preservation of their high ethical standards in serving the community.”

“MAFEA’s learning process didn’t stop when we obtained our bachelor’s degrees, as there is what we call continuing education,” he said.

De Guzman said technology in this new millennium changes so fast and engineers and architects need to enhance and upgrade their knowledge.

If not, he added, “you will be left behind and might end up working for unstable companies.”

Philippine Consul General Wilfredo Maximo, who inducted the officers, is hoping that the MAFEA leadership will continue to maintain the “bayanihan” spirit in the face of the challenges confronting the CNMI.

Bayanihan is a Filipino word that means “working together.”

“I wish to express admiration for achieving a remarkable balance between your professional interests and your commitment to public service,” Maximo told MAFEA members.

Besides de Guzman, those inducted as 2008-2009 MAFEA officers were Hector Sevilla, vice president; Ruel Magtalas, vice president external; Enrique Tabanda, public relations officer; Joseph Liberato, treasurer; Annie Liberato. assistant treasurer; Carlito J. Marquez, secretary; Dominador Aquino, auditor; and Fernando Fortadez, business manager.

The members of the board of directors: Henry P. Bautista, chairman; Andrew Mesina, vice chairman; Roger Talapian, Mirope Casipit, Randy Jacob, Rommel Crisostomo, Noli Villacrusis and Ismael Cuenca.

Martin Sablan, the Department of Public Works’ building safety code director, was one of MAFEA’s special guests.

In his farewell message, outgoing president Emmanuel Po said MAFEA still has many opportunities for improvement in increasing the number and improving the scope of its existing programs.

“Every improvement you make means that you will better serve each other,” he said. “Let us continue to learn from each other and help one another.”
