IN a landmark commitment to the future of the Commonwealth of the CNMI, EUCON International School and University has unveiled the comprehensive EIU and EIS Indigenous Scholarship Program, specifically designed to empower Chamorro and Carolinian youth from elementary school through to master’s degrees. This transformative initiative, born from a profound desire to invest in CNMI’s indigenous roots and leadership, was met with deep emotion and gratitude by CNMI leaders.
The program’s announcement follows a pivotal meeting arranged by the tireless advocate Sen. Corina, who brought together EUCON leadership with Luella Ichihara Marciano, resident executive of the Indigenous Affairs Office, and Felix Nogis, executive assistant of the Carolinian Affairs Office. Senator Magofna’s unwavering dedication to creating opportunities for the indigenous community, especially its next generation, paved the way for this significant partnership.
“We were profoundly moved by [EUCON President] Dr. [Christian] Wei and EUCON’s vision,” said Luella Ichihara Marciano, her voice reflecting the weight of the moment. “This isn’t merely financial aid; it’s a deep, intentional investment in the very soul of our islands — our indigenous youth. It recognizes that our true strength lies in nurturing minds grounded in our unique Chamorro and Carolinian heritage, languages, and cultures, while equipping them with world-class education.”
A scholarship program rooted in culture and faith
The EIU and EIS Indigenous Scholarship Program stands as one of the most comprehensive educational investments for indigenous CNMI students:
1) 80 Full Scholarships for K-12: Ensuring foundational excellence (35 elementary, 15 junior high, 30 high school).
2) 50 bachelor’s degree scholarships: Opening doors to undergraduate education.
3) 10 Full MBA scholarships: Cultivating advanced leadership (Application deadline: July 14, 2025).
“EUCON’s commitment reflects a powerful spirit of selflessness and love — a true embodiment of Christian faith in action,” Felix Nogis said. “Dr. Wei and the entire EUCON community understand that quality education is the cornerstone of a brighter future. By empowering our youth with knowledge and the unwavering truth of their identity, we are guiding them towards eternal purpose and enabling them to build a stronger, more resilient, and truly prosperous CNMI for generations to come. This is the most enduring investment possible in our culture and our islands.”
Building leaders anchored in heritage
EUCON’s mission extends far beyond academics. The program is dedicated to fostering leaders who are:
• Academically excellent: Equipped with the skills for success in higher education and professional careers.
• Culturally rooted: Deeply connected to and proud ambassadors of their Chamorro and Carolinian heritage, language, and traditions.
• Community-minded: Prepared to be the ethical, contributing pillars of CNMI society.
“Investing in the indigenous youth is investing in CNMI’s enduring foundation,” emphasized Dr. Wei. “We are committed to walking alongside these students, not just through their academic journey, but in nurturing them to become the steadfast leaders and community cornerstones who will shape a flourishing future for our islands, deeply connected to their roots.”
Act now
EUCON, Senator Magofna, the Indigenous Affairs Office, and the Carolinian Affairs Office urgently call upon families, educators, and community leaders across the CNMI to identify and encourage eligible Chamorro and Carolinian students to apply for these life-changing opportunities. Time is of the essence, particularly for the prestigious MBA scholarships closing on July 14, 2025.
