THE CNMI Department of Labor invites job seekers to a job fair on July 25 at the Marianas Beach Resort, the former Hyatt, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
More than 30 employers will set up at the hotel, including the Commonwealth Utilities Corporation, Seafix Incorporated, Plumeria Steakhouse, Division of Youth Services, J.C. Tenorio Enterprises, Inc., and the Women’s Affairs Office.
Lanie L. Cruz, Workforce Investment Agency’s business service coordinator, said the fair is intended to “bridge the gap” between employers and potential employees.
She added that the fair helps make the job search more “convenient.”
“Attending the job fair provides job seekers a valuable opportunity to connect directly with a wide range of employers from various industries,” she said. “It’s an excellent chance to explore current job openings, learn more about different companies, and even participate in on-the-spot interviews.”
James Ulloa, labor certification supervisor, said that in the third quarter of FY 2025, trades continue to be among the CNMI’s “most in-demand jobs.”
In line with the CNMI Department of Labor data from 2020-2023, the top five job vacancy openings for the third quarter of FY 2025 are:
– Installation, maintenance, and repair — 1,639 openings
– Construction and extraction — 829 openings
– Food preparation and serving — 586 openings
– Personal care and service — 451 openings
– Building and grounds cleaning and maintenance — 420 openings
Ulloa noted that skilled tradespeople are in high demand in the CNMI job market. The highest non-trade job vacancy was in office and administrative support, with 224 openings.
“This data suggests there’s strong demand for skilled tradespeople in areas like equipment repair, facility maintenance, construction work, and manufacturing/production roles in the CNMI,” he said. “The dominance of these trades-related positions indicates continued economic activity in infrastructure, construction, and maintenance sectors in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands.”
Cruz added that the CNMI Department of Labor’s role in the economy is to ensure a “well-prepared, competitive, and sustainable workforce.”
“By organizing events like this, we create a centralized platform where businesses can efficiently recruit qualified candidates, and job seekers can explore various career paths and apply for positions that match their skills and interests,” she said. “This not only helps reduce unemployment but also boosts productivity and economic stability by keeping the local workforce engaged and employed.”
Cruz suggested job seekers bring their résumés and relevant credentials to the fair.
