They are the former prime minister of Australia, Robert James Lee Hawke, and Catholic Archbishop Karl Bernhard Hesse. Both have been appointed Grand Companions of the Order of Logohu.
Head of the Logohu and Imperial Awards Committee Sir Frederick Reiher said Hawke and Hesse have been made PNG’s special friends and appointed as Chief Logohus for 40 years of outstanding service to PNG.
Hawke has been recognized for his effort in establishing the PNG’s Trade Union Movement for Papua New Guinea the late 1960s and setting up the Indigenous Wage system.
Hesse was honored for his loyal service to the church and formation of people and society, Sir Frederick said.
The third highest Logohu award the CSM order of the Star of Melanesia has been awarded to Brown Bai, the chairman of the Rural Industries Council and Peter Norman Colton.
Chief Ombudsman Chronox Manek, PNG Gardener Justine Tkatchenko and former Internal Revenue Commissioner David Sode have also been appointed officers of the Order of Logohu. They were among 12 people awarded with the honored.
Former Member of Parliament for Bogia Caspar Anggua was appointed member of the Order of Logohu with 19 others.
Private lawyer Mathew Tamutai and computer expert Sundar Ramamurthy were among 23 people who were awarded the National Logohu Medal.
Eight people were given the Cross of Medical Service Medal. Four people were honored with the Meritorious Public Service Medal. 17 people received the Meritorious Community Service Medal and three others were given the Commendation for Valuable Service Medal.
