Teigita has admitted the violations reported by the U.S. Probation Office which included smoking “ice” at the Department of Corrections facility prior to his release on Aug. 11, 2010.
Corrections officials did not reply to this reporter’s emails.
Teigita also told the Federal Probation Office that he had been selling “ice” for approximately a year and a half ago, and “passed the torch” to a friend who provided him with the illegal drug the probationer smoked on Oct. 13, 2010.
Teigita refused to name his supplier.
Designated Federal Court Judge David A. Wiseman said upon release from prison, Teigita will be placed on 25 months supervised release, and will comply with court-imposed conditions.
Assistant U.S. Attorney James J. Benedetto, who prosecuted the case, recommended a sentence of 12 months imprisonment and 29 months supervised release.
Teigita’s court-appointed defense attorney Bruce Berline asked for an eight-month to one-year home confinement, and a requirement to attend drug abuse and anger management counseling.
Wiseman remanded Teigita to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service after the hearing.
On Nov. 21, 2000, then-Chief Judge Alex R. Munson sentenced Teigita to 96 months imprisonment followed by three years of supervised release for robbing a poker room.
