Faisao’s re-appointment needs the consent of the Senate.
The Senate Committee on Executive Appointments has so far scheduled hearings for four nominees.
They are: Melchor Mendiola, Jr. as member of the Marianas Public Lands Trust Board of Trustees, Feb. 22 at 1 p.m.; former Speaker Oscar M. Babauta as secretary of the Department of Public Lands, March 2 at 10 a.m.; Martin C. Sablan as secretary of the Department of Public Works, March 2 at 2 p.m., and; Santiago F. Tudela as commissioner of the Department of Public Safety, March 3 at 10 a.m.
Last Monday, a woman hand-delivered to the Variety a two-page letter critical of Faisao’s handling of DCCA.
The letter was addressed to Senate President Paul A. Manglona, Ind.-Rota.
This reporter e-mailed a copy to Faisao and asked for his comment.
Two days later, Faisao replied in an e-mail: “No comments. Who knows maybe you are the author who orchestrated the letter, why don’t you not waste time and effort on a coward writer who loves being in the limelight through conditional stage as a disguised naive anonymous enquirer or a renegade with a[n] unprofessional motive of a silhouette stalker.”
The letter writer said under Faisao’s leadership, the Arts Council lost its federal grant and people who were protected by the Civil Service Commission were transferred to other offices against their will.
