FBI sponsors rapid response training for NMI law enforcement

EARLIER last week, the FBI’s Honolulu Field Office, Saipan Resident Agency trained 45 local law enforcement officers from the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands in Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training or ALERRT.  The training discussed best practices and lessons learned from past critical incident responses and allowed attendees to participate in a simulated scenario.  The scenario allowed participants to discuss response strategy to include services needed and anticipated challenges or potential obstacles in the event of an active shooter event.

ALERRT is an FBI-sponsored initiative that trains law enforcement throughout the U.S. and across the world to respond to active shooter events.  This training aimed to provide the much-needed tactical training to local law enforcement and first responders to isolate, distract, and neutralize an active shooter.

The ALERRT Center at Texas State University was created in 2002 as a partnership between Texas State University, the San Marcos, Texas Police Department and the Hays County, Texas Sheriff’s Office to address the need for active shooter response training for first responders. In 2013, ALERRT at Texas State was named the national standard in active shooter response training by the FBI.
