The Fiji Bus Operators Association on Wednesday rejected the interim government’s plan to give operators a direct subsidy of 10 percent of VAT exclusive price on fuel.
Fiji Bus Operators Association spokesman Rohit Singh said they met with Commodore Bainimarama yesterday morning and assured that he would look into the matter.
“At this stage we are happy but we are leaving no stones unturned,” he told Fijilive.
The association will meet interim Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum for further talks.
Earlier yesterday morning, there was a mad rush as people all over the country tried to get whatever means of transportation they could to get to work.
The decision by Fiji bus operators to resume operations is too late for schools to reopen, said interim Education Minister Filipe Bole.
Bole told Fijilive the announcement for schools to be closed until further notice will be reviewed.
“We had issued a notice for two days,” he said.
An earlier statement from the Ministry of Education stated that its top priority is the safety and welfare of students. It added that the ministry will continue to monitor the situation.
