Fiji human rights office closed

FHRC chairwoman Dr. Shaista Shameem told Fiji Live they had been advised by the interim government their department would be closed.

“My staff went to the office this morning and they were greeted by police officers guarding the premises,” Shameem said.

“They were informed that they had orders that the FHRC office will not be open,” she said.

“To my understanding, that is happening to all governmental departments.”

Public Service Commission Chairman Dr. Mohammed Yunus could not be reached for comment on the status of government departments and ministries.

A spokeswoman asked for questions to be e-mailed.

A random check with several ministries showed they were open.
