Acting Zoning Administrator Therese Ogumoro said her office has already notified the candidates and their committees regarding the requirements of the zoning law.
Ogumoro said a permit is required for a political sign if it is installed less than 50 feet in any direction from an intersection and more than six feet high from the ground.
A permit is also required for signs on any public or private property if they can be seen from a public right-of-way or public open space.
Moreover, the sign should provide a clear view of intersections to avoid obstructing or endangering motorists or pedestrians.
Ogumoro said they discourage the installation of sign boards along, or too close to, road shoulders.
“Safety is our main concern and we encourage candidates to register for a zoning permit, learn about the requirements and comply with the conditions. Failure to do so may result in the issuance of fines of up to $1,000 per day,” Ogumoro said.
Any representative of the candidates or their committees can visit the zoning office at the Joeten Building in Dandan,
They may also visit the Web site on at www.zoning..gov.mp for more information.
