“The medical outreach initiated by the consulate is very helpful to the Filipino workers especially in these times of economic hardship,” Arsenal said.
He expressed appreciation for the consulate for its continued reminders about registering with the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration to get the benefits it offers.
Ruben Gamayo, who has been working on island for 20 years, is another regular client of the free health screening.
“Their services are very good and I appreciate the effort of the volunteers,” he said.
Yesterday’s medical outreach drew the participation of the volunteer medical team, the CNMI Pharmacists Association, the Hardt Eye Clinic and Saulmaz Rostami, an Australian public health worker.
Natividad Jabonero, a volunteer nurse, said Rostami was conducting a study on Saipan.
Consul General Medardo Macaraig was happy about the turnout and the number of volunteers who participated.
Volunteers, he added, always deserve appreciation and gratitude for their services.
Labor attaché Carmelina Velasguez said they noticed more new patients yesterday.
“The information campaign has been very effective and people are also more conscious about their health,” she said.
She lauded the volunteers for their systematic and well-organized participation.
The free health screening program is also supported by the Philippine Overseas Labor Office.
In addition to the health screening, the consulate yesterday opened its office for processing of ePassport applications and OWWA registration.
