DPS Commissioner Clyde Norita said the unit personnel will inspect bars. restaurants and other business establishment operating at night.
Firefighters Combin Taisakan and Daniel Suel said the proposed changes to the rules and regulations of the fire safety code are now being reviewed by the DPS commissioner and the Attorney General’s Office and will take effect after 30 days.
“Once it is already adopted by the Attorney General’s Office then we will start enforcing it,” Suel said in a press conference on Friday.
Norita said it is important for the fire prevention personnel to work with the business community members and educate them about the fire safety law.
The inspection will also give the business operators time to fix whatever deficiencies that may be found at their establishments, Norita said.
He added that by working with DPS, business owners will avoid possible monetary penalties once the new rules are implemented and fire inspector come back for a compliance inspection.
According to Norita, businesses not in compliance with the law will pay a fine or will be ordered to shut down.
