The event was spearheaded by the Philippine Consulate General.
“Filipinos all over the globe celebrate Independence Day, and for us here in the CNMI, we share the significance of this event with the people of the Northern Marianas,” Consul General Wilfredo DL. Maximo said.
“I would like to thank all of you who joined this traditional commemoration of this historic event for the Filipino people,” he added.
The Philippines will mark its 110th Independence Day on Thursday, June 12.
Maximo read the Independence Day message of Philippine President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, who urged the Filipinos to carry on the struggles of the country in the battle against poverty and to unite and work as one.
“The Filipino community is abroad in the frontlines of our global quest for confidence, investments and prosperity,” she added.
Consul Belinda M. Ante read the message from Foreign Affairs Secretary Alberto G. Romulo while labor representative Joan Lourdes D. Lavilla read the message from acting Labor and Employment Secretary Marianito D. Roque.
Overseas Filipino Workers Support Group president Flor Miranda and United Filipino Organization representative Fe Calexterio both gave inspiring messages and urged the Filipinos to hold on to the freedom they are privileged to enjoy.
This year’s anniversary theme was “Collaboration Toward the Youth’s Future.”
