First Chinese culture night at Thursday street market

Several entertainment programs are scheduled for the event including special performances from Beijing artists who will exhibit the exciting Chinese “Biàn Liǎn,” which means “Face-Changing.” It is an ancient Chinese dramatic art that is part of the more general Sichuan opera. The performers will be wearing brightly colored costumes and move to quick, dramatic music, and vividly colored masks, which they change within a fraction of a second.

The performers from Beijing will also be doing the “Gông Fu Chá,” a thrilling show based on the tea preparation approach. The tea ceremony was originally popularized by teashops carrying tea of Chinese or Taiwan origins and by tea connoisseurs as a way to maximize the taste of a tea selection.

Today, the ceremony has become a form of entertainment in various fairs, ceremonies and tourist programs.

The Beijing performers will start the show from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The local Chinese community will also be performing unique cultural performances and exhibitions. In addition, there will be special booths which will feature artwork, Chinese calligraphy, photo booths, cultural items, and games for the children.

The booths open at 6 p.m. and entertainment kicks off with the traditional Lion Dance at 7 p.m.

The community is invited to come and enjoy a night of fun, and step into China for once night and experience the sights, sounds, and tastes of a culturally vibrant country.

The Chinese Association of Saipan would like to thank the Tan Siu Lin Foundation, the Department of Community and Cultural Affairs, the Division of Parks and Recreation, and the PDM Promoters for their assistance.
