First Hawaiian Bank to close Gualo Rai branch on June 14

FIRST Hawaiian Bank is closing its Gualo Rai branch and automated teller machine at the end of business day, 4 p.m., on June 14, 2024, FHB Executive Vice President and Region Manager Ed Untalan said in a letter to customers.

He said this is in line with their “continuing efforts to streamline and improve their customer service delivery.”

Untalan said their customers’ banking transactions will be handled at FHB’s Oleai branch on Beach Road in San Jose. He also encourages their customers to utilize their on-site and off-site ATMs and their online and mobile banking services.

He said FHB customers should ask their bank about other alternative convenient banking solutions such as direct deposit, auto pay, auto transfer and debit cards.

“As this change may create disruption on your normal banking routines, we apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause, but rest assured that we are doing our best to minimize the impact of this change. There will be no changes made to your existing accounts and all of your deposit and loan account numbers will remain the same and you may continue using your existing checks and deposit slips,” Untalan said.

Asked for comment, Saipan Chamber of Commerce President Joe C. Guerrero said other banks in the U.S. mainland are doing the same thing. They want their customers to take advantage of online banking services, which can also reduce costs for the banks.

Guerrero said many individuals are turning to online banking for their needs. “Even I,” he added, “find it more convenient for my transactions.”
