First lady: ‘We try to make the best of it’

“The economy is hurting us, and it’s not just us here — it’s around the world. There’s no one to blame, really, for something like this,” she said.

“It’s not the governor’s fault. It’s not your fault. It’s not my fault, but we try to make the best of it,” she added.

She said her foundation, which was launched after Typhoon Soudelor devastated the island in August 2015, continues with its mission, which is to help improve the lives of the people of the Commonwealth through recovery  efforts and other initiatives.

“We try to do things differently, but, you know, it’s hard for everybody,” Mrs. Torres said.

She added that even amid the pandemic, people can still go out and enjoy themselves, like going to the beach or to the Christmas Village on the Hill, while complying with all the safety protocols.

She is encouraging the community to go out and enjoy what the island has to offer. “Bring your family and friends,” she added.
