Vice Speaker Felicidad T. Ogumoro, Reps. Ramon A. Tebuteb, Francisco S. Dela Cruz, Edmund S. Villagomez and Ray N. Yumul welcomed their constituents and expressed the importance of holding such meetings.
According to Ogumoro, “This village meeting allows residents of Precinct III to express their views, opinions, and recommendations, as well as to raise objections and questions on legislative issues and other matters that are of concern and interest to them.”
Also in attendance were Saipan Mayor Donald Flores, Commerce Secretary Michael Ada, Commonwealth Utilities Corp. Deputy Director Abe Malae, and Workforce Investment Agency Director Edith Deleon Guerrero. Each gave a brief summary of their accomplishments to date, and were available to address concerns relating to their specific office.
For the convenience of Precinct III residents, booths were set up by staff and representatives of the Division of Youth Services, the Workforce Investment Agency, the Northern Marianas Trades Institute, Northern Marianas College, the Saipan Higher Education Financial Assistance program and the CNMI Scholarship Office.
The audience was invited to participate in the discussion, ask questions and provide information necessary for the representatives to consider. One issue brought up was dangerous road conditions in China Town. Also raised and deliberated were concerns of unemployment on the island. Precinct III residents in attendance said the village meeting was informative and productive, and encouraged their representatives to hold future village meetings.
“We would like to thank those who attended and also would like to inform the residents of Precinct III that we will be keeping you informed on the date of the next village meeting,” said Ogumoro. “Currently we would like to see that we meet with our constituents on a quarterly basis to address their concerns and update them on our work in progress as well as our accomplishments. Additionally, we are thankful for the assistance from the different agencies that collaborated with us to make this event possible for our constituents.”
