The results of this procedure will inherently determine whether or not the governor will require another spinal surgery in order to remove the remnants of the stenosis that has recurred since his two previous surgeries were performed four years ago at the same medical center.
Dr. Jeffrey Wang, who performed the previous surgeries on Fitial, has indicated that if the spinal procedure turns out successful, the governor’s inflamed and tight lumbar #4 and #5 will be decompressed and his mobility will see a significant improvement.
Wang is the executive director of the UCLA Comprehensive Spine Center, which integrates different specialties including minimally invasive surgery and advanced non-operative and pain management to comprehensively treat all spinal disorders.
Fitial has also indicated that in the event the results indicate that more corrective measures are required, his absence from the commonwealth would take longer than anticipated.
Nonetheless, he is hopeful for positive results so that he may be able to return home soon.
