Pete Reyes appeared at the U.S. District Court for the NMI late afternoon for his initial court appearance.
Federal agents have footage showing Reyes selling “ice” last March within the vicinity of the administration building.
Reyes initially told a confidential source they would complete the drug deal after he dropped off the governor at his office, investigators said.
After the governor left his vehicle, Reyes and the confidential source made the drug deal inside the same vehicle, investigators added.
Reyes, who was required to post a $10,000 unsecured bond, was placed under house arrest.
Press Secretary Charles P. Reyes, Jr., in an e-mail said: “If this is true, this would obviously be a very unfortunate and disappointing development. As always, the administration respects our criminal justice system and the judicial process, which affords each person due process rights. We respect our rule of law.”
Earlier, Department of Public Safety Commissioner Santiago Tudela confirmed he received a subpoena in connection with the issuance of a gun for Pete Reyes.
