Flores appoints Yumul to municipal council

If confirmed by the Saipan legislative delegation, Yumul will join municipal council chairman Ramon B. Camacho and  vice chairman Eric Demapan Diaz.

Camacho and Diaz were the only candidates for the three-seat  council last November.

In case of a vacancy, the CNMI Constitution allows the mayor to appoint a person to serve on the council with the consent of the island’s legislative delegation.

In his letter, Flores told Yumul to submit his “affirmative response to serve in this body for a period of three years.”

Flores also requested Yumul to provide the mayor’s office a copy of his résumé.

“At your earliest convenience, you must [also] submit a statement of financial interest and disclosure to the Office of the Public Auditor and it must be stamped received and attached thereto, a copy of the affirmative letter indicating that you have accepted this appointment,” the mayor said.

Kimo M. Rosario, Flores’s special adviser, said the mayor also appointed Juan K. Tenorio to serve as a member of the Saipan Higher Education Financial Assistance board.

“There are currently two vacant seats on the SHEFA board. The mayor’s recent action fill one of the two vacant seats,” Rosario said.

There are seven members on the SHEFA board including the mayor who is  an ex-officio member.

Rosario said the appointment of Tenorio is also subject to the advice and consent of the Saipan delegation.

Flores informed Yumul and Tenorio that “the appointments to serve the people of Saipan and the Northern Islands in these capacities are based on his trust and confidence in both gentlemen’s abilities,” Rosario said.

The mayor is looking forward to working closely with Yumul and Tenorio after the confirmation of their appointments, Rosario added.
