The mayor’s office, schools, hotels and private groups on Saipan have been coordinating the visits of cultural exchange students every year, he noted.
However, he said has been no official count of these visitors.
“It would be nice if [the Marianas Visitors Authority] can make changes to its current form for tourists to include a blank box for visiting students to check,” he said.
Currently, he added, cultural exchange students fill out the form as tourists.
He said the proper documentation of exchange students will also help the Department of Commerce in its data gathering efforts.
Flores at the same time said he will include in his office’s proposed budget funding for the cultural exchange program.
This November, he said more than 90 students from Japan are expected to visit Saipan.
