Any development will be west of the island, and residents of the Northern Marianas should monitor the progress of this disturbance, the National Weather Forecast Office said.
The tropical cyclone formation was about 200 miles northwest of Guam, 190 miles northwest of Rota, 180 miles west-northwest of Tinian, and 190 miles west-northwest of Saipan.
This system was expected to intensify into a tropical depression in the next 24 hours, National Weather Forecast Office said, adding that it would produce some periods of heavy rains, gusty winds, rough seas and high surf for Rota, Tinian and Saipan.
