Introduced by Rep. Fredrick P. Deleon Guerrero, Ind.-Saipan, H.L.B. 17-41 will authorize the division director to use 5 percent of the total funds allocated for each locally appropriated capital improvement project on island that costs $5,000 or more.
The allocation of funds per project, however, is limited to $15,000 regardless of the project amount.
Current law allows the division director to use 2 percent of the total funds allocated for each locally appropriated CIP over $50,000.
In a letter to the Saipan and Northern Islands Legislative Delegation, Flores said the bill will “provide DPW the monetary assistance it is currently lacking.”
He added, “We are in full support of the intent of the bill.”
Flores noted that various agencies of the CNMI government avail of the services of the technical services division.
He said the bill will ensure that small projects get funding for architectural and engineering services.
“The bill is a way to move many small projects that are now stalled because of funding issues,” he added.
