He urged community members to join in the international effort to help the earthquake and tsunami victims in Japan by giving donations to the Red Cross.
He also extended his sympathies to the Japanese people through Consul General Tsutomo Higuchi.
“Through our cultural exchange program, very close relationships with families from here and Japan have been established; we cherish the friendship and goodwill we have with our Japan sister-cities,” the mayor said.
He urged the CNMI people to continue offering prayers and condolences to the people of Japan as he wished for a speedy recovery.
“Our local children have had the opportunity to meet and stay with Japanese families. Because close ties have been cemented and continually nurtured by constantly keeping in touch and caring for one the devastation like last Friday’s truly affects us here on Saipan,” he said.
