Free health screening for Filipino workers

(Philippine Consulate, Saipan) — The Philippine Consulate General will conduct its 1st quarter  free health screening for Filipino workers this coming Sunday, March 7, on the ground floor of the Marianas Business Plaza Building.


Registration is from 7 a.m. to  8 a.m. and the actual conduct of the activity will start at 8 a.m. and end at 12 noon.

The free health screening program by the Philippine Overseas Labor Office and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration is done in cooperation with the Filipino Volunteer Medical Team, the CNMI Pharmacist Association and Hardt Eye Clinic.

The medical services include blood pressure, blood sugar, and vision check-ups.

Those who are availing of blood sugar level check-up must refrain from taking solid and liquid food from 12 midnight to actual testing.

Last calendar year 2009, a total of 1,601 Filipino workers have benefited from the health screening program, of whom 1,228 availed of the blood pressure and blood sugar check-ups, while 373 availed of the eye vision check-up.

The average number of Filipino workers who come for check-ups every quarter is placed at 400.

This program is being conducted to increase the level of awareness on diabetes prevention and control, hypertension and eye/vision pressure correction among the Filipino workers. Through this project, the Philippine Consulate General hopes to reach more workers and serve even if in a modest way, their medical needs, while fostering the spirit of volunteerism on Saipan.

The Philippine Consulate General will also be opened to provide normal consular services on the same day to make up for the early closure of the Consulate last Sunday, Feb. 28, due to a tsunami warning alert. Those availing of consular services may proceed to the 5th floor of the Marianas Business Plaza from 9 a.m. .to 4 p.m.
