FSM auditor conducts fraud workshop in Yap

Sophia Predrick and Kelly Samuel of the Division of Compliance and Investigation of ONPA were in Yap conduct the workshops as part of the division’s fraud awareness program.

Prior to their visit, and subsequent to communication from the national public auditor, Anefal had urged all heads of departments, offices and agencies to encourage employees’ participation in the workshop.

During the workshop, participants were given an overview of the ONPA office and how CID functions in ensuring compliance and fraud prevention of government entities.

Following an informative presentation, questions and comments were entertained including doing an evaluation for the workshop.

Anefal made a brief comment on the presentation and highlighted the importance of the workshop in the overall scheme of financial crime prevention for the government.

He said while the state may reportedly have a smaller share of fraud incidents in comparison with other entities, “no government is perfect and Yap state is no exception and so the state government most certainly has its own share for which ONPA should address given its expertise.”

It was pointed out that cooperation between ONPA and the state government needs to be enhanced.
