FSM diplomat named to Guam’s MLK panel

This commission is mandated by Guam’s Public Law 29-66.

In a letter, Camacho said Jackson has been recognized “to possess the qualifications and character that support the philosophy behind the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King  Jr.” and “it is with great honor that I appoint you to serve as a member of the MLK Human and Civil Rights Commission.”

After consulting with the FSM president’s office, Jackson formally accepted the appointment.

Jackson is also a member of the Guam Interagency Council on Homelessness which conducted the 2009 Homeless Point-In-Time-Count for all unsheltered homeless residents on Guam.

The most recent homeless count was conducted in Jan.  2007 and recorded over 1,000 homeless individuals in Guam, with a sizeable segment from the Freely Associated States — Palau, the Marshall Islands and the FSM.

Also last month, the new board of the recently reactivated FSM Association of Guam met at the official residence of the consul general.

There are 15 members of the board: five from Chuuk, four from Pohnpei, and three each from Yap and Kosrae.

The officers are Herbert Sigrah, president; John Uruo vice president; Kasinda Ludwig, secretary; and John Sigrah, treasurer.
