An applicant must be single, at least 17 years old or and not above 23 as of July 1, 2009.
If female, must not be pregnant.
Applicants must have no legal obligation to support children or other dependents
Once an applicant completes the requirements, they should send them to the state governor’s office for their official submission to the FSM Department of Foreign Affairs.
The following materials are required to fairly evaluate an application:
• A completed “Service Academy Nomination Application”
• Official, sealed transcript from high schools and colleges attended
• SAT or ACT test result
• TOEFL test result
• Three letters of recommendation from people who know you well. One of which must be from your state governor. Recommendations from family members are not permitted.
• Essay — in approximately 500 typed words, explain why you are seeking this nomination
The deadlines are Dec. 17, 2008 for U.S. Air Force applications and Jan. 16, 2009 for U.S. Naval Academy and U.S. Military Academy applications.
Applicants will be evaluated on the basis of academic performance, intelligence, leadership ability, moral character, adequacy of preparation and commitment to attend a service academy.
An applicant may be contacted for an interview. Candidates will be informed whether or not they will be receiving a nomination by May 2009.
