In their meeting, Kempthorne formally provided Mori an official copy of his letter informing the FSM government about the approval of the Compact sector grants in the amount of $81,629,280 for fiscal year 2009.
In addition, Interior’s Office of Insular Affairs awarded a $350,000 operations and maintenance improvement grant to Pohnpei Utilities Corp.
This grant will be used to repair a Daihatsu 2.5 megawatts generator at the PUC power plant in Pohnpei.
The repair of this generator will prevent power blackouts from occurring in the state.
Also included in these awards received by Mori is a $150,000 grant to PUC, which will be used for funding the cash power meters program.
The purchase and installation of cash power meters will improve the PUC cost recovery system to be 100 percent prepaid, so that the utilities agency will have funds to pay for additional fuel.
