It was the first fundraiser for the Dr. Eliuel K. Pretrick Memorial Scholarship, and the event raised over $1,500, with the family of Pretrick making a donation of $500.
Pretrick was the secretary of the FSM Department of Health, Education and Social Affairs and the founding president of the FSM National Olympic Committee.
The Dr. Eliuel K. Pretrick Memorial Scholarship will award a $10,000 scholarship each school year.
The goal is to encourage citizens of the Federated States of Micronesia to pursue a post-secondary education and receive a four-year university bachelor of arts or science degree in physical education or sport related fields.
Any FSM citizen is eligible to apply, provided he/she would be, at the time of award, enrolled and attending, or accepted to attend an accredited institution of higher education.
The deadline for submitting the scholarship application is May 1, 2010.
