Academy president Dr. Gene Sylvester Eagle-Oden told the Variety that they appreciate the support they get from the community.
“The seats were full,” Eagle-Oden said.
The academy’s 45 girls and one boy performed ballets from “The Nutcracker,” “Les Sylphides,” “Paquita,” as well as jazz numbers.
“Our students come from different ethnicities and it is an international group of cultures coming together to showcase their talents in dancing,” Eagle-Oden said.
For the first time, two Russian girls were part of the team.
What made the concert extra-special was the presence of world class ballerina and instructor Albina Raeva who will be staying on island for the next couple of weeks.
Glushko’s Academy ballet instructor Anna Glushko, who retired from dancing last year, said Raeva was her mentor and ballet instructor in Russia for 15 years.
“She will be observing and teaching the students while she’s here,” Glushko said.
The academy’s major concert in December will feature “The Nutcracker.”
Eagle-Oden said about 60 local dancers will perform for the Dec. 10-11 concert along with international ballet stars from Russia, Japan and Korea.
