U.S. District Court for the NMI Chief Judge Alex R. Munson also ordered Song Yong Ming to serve 10 years of supervised release upon his release from prison, subject to several conditions.
Munson gave Song Yong Ming credit for time already served in federal custody.
Song Yong Ming appeared in court yesterday with his court-appointed counsel Joey San Nicolas. Assistant U.S. Attorney James Benedetto represented the federal government.
Munson said the defendant, after serving his jail term, will be delivered to an authorized immigration official for deportation proceedings, but if immediate deportation fails to occur and the defendant is released, he must immediately report to the U.S. Probation Office for his supervised release.
Song Yong Ming’s arrest resulted in the seizure of $75,000 worth of ice, the third biggest haul of the illegal drug so far in the CNMI.
He was found guilty by a jury on Feb. 25, 2009.
Song Yong Ming was indicted for possessing with the intent to distribute 138 grams of “ice” on Sept. 11, 2008 while within 1,000 feet near Marianas High School.
