GASOLINE prices went up again by 10 cents on Friday, but diesel price remains the same.
Mobil Oil Marianas and Shell Marianas raised their gasoline prices on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
The price of regular gasoline on Saipan went up 10 cents to $5.66 a gallon while the premium gas price rose to $6.11 a gallon . The diesel price is still $5.93 a gallon.
Tinian Fuel Services’ regular gas price as of Friday was $7.76 a gallon while the diesel price was $7.78 a gallon.
On Rota, Calvo Enterprises’ regular gas price was $6.94 a gallon while the diesel price was $10.17 a gallon.
Ferdie Espiritu, who makes a living by fishing in his old small boat, said the continuing increase in fuel prices has reduced his income because he has not raised the price of his catch.
On Sunday, he said his boat consumed $100 worth of gas sailing to the waters near Banzai Cliff. He estimated that his catch would probably earn him $50. On Saturday, his catch earned him $20 only.
Espiritu said prior to the last three fuel price hikes over the last couple of months, he used to buy $60 worth of gasoline and take home about $100 for his family.
According to Reuters, oil rose around 1% on Friday on geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.
Brent crude futures settled up 71 cents at $90.45 a barrel, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude futures rose 64 cents to $85.66, Reuters reported.
It added that during the week, oil prices neared a six-month high on concern that Iran, the third-largest OPEC producer, might retaliate for a suspected Israeli warplane attack on Iran’s embassy in Damascus on Monday last week.
