AFTER two consecutive rollbacks this month, the prices of gasoline on Saipan went up by 10 cents on Thursday.
Mobil Oil on Saipan increased its regular gasoline price to $5.16 a gallon from $5.06 a gallon and the premium gasoline price to $5.61 a gallon from $5.51 a gallon on Thursday. Shell Station adjusted its gas price on Saturday.
The diesel price remains $5.289 a gallon on Saipan.
On Tinian, Tinian Fuel Services’ regular gasoline price was $7.12 a gallon and the diesel price was 7.40 a gallon as of Sunday.
On Rota, Calvo Enterprises’ regular gas price was still $6.44 a gallon and the diesel price was $9.62 a gallon, also as of Sunday.
Former Sen. Henry H. San Nicolas of Tinian said price hikes are hard. “All of us, we are looking for something cheaper,” he said, adding that every household is affected whenever gasoline prices change.
On Tinian, it’s especially tough for ranchers because, in addition to driving to their remote cattle ranches, they also have to purchase fuel for their brush cutters, said San Nicolas, who spends around $200 on gasoline every two weeks.
His wife, Tinian Municipal Councilwoman Anna Marissa San Nicolas, said they need gasoline to drive to work, visit family, and take their children to school. She also mentioned that, in addition to gasoline, the price of eggs has become too high.
According to Reuters, oil prices edged up on Thursday as investors weighed a weaker U.S. dollar, potential OPEC+ output increase, mixed economic news, conflicting U.S. tariff signals and news from the Russia-Ukraine war.
Brent crude futures rose 43 cents, or 0.7%, to settle at $66.55 a barrel. U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude rose 52 cents, or 0.8%, to settle at $62.79, Reuters added.
