GCA, SCS eight graders top ‘Coke Side of Life’ art contest

The entry of GCA’s Janet Revilla which carried the theme “Opus Eponymous” got the judges’ nod in the poster making competition. She also won third place in the can decorating contest. Melanie S. Pacia, a senior at Marianas High School and Yeo Jin Lee, an eight grade student at SCS came up as second and third placers for the poster making contest.

SCS’s James Ko’s hula-inspired creation in the can decorating contest won first place. Yong Chae Khan, and eight grader at SCS won the second place with her “Coke Flower Windmill” entry.

The contest, which was launched on Oct. 1 and ran until Nov. 11 revealed the creativity and artistry of 22 budding artists both from junior high school and high school students on Saipan.

All three winners from each category brought home gift certificates for Coke and Foremost products, gas certificates from Shell Marianas, and certificates for Subway party stubs and Subway sandwiches.

Serving as judges in the competition were Saipan’s local artists Noel Quitugua, Barry Wonenberg and Jeanne Rayphand.

The entries were judged based on creativity, artistic quality, adherence to the theme, and adherence to the contest rules.

Coca-Cola launched the worldwide advertising campaign with the tagline “Coke Side of Life” in 2006. On Saipan, the students were given free rein on how they would interpret and visualize any facet of life with Coke.
