GCA students top art contest

The theme of the competition was “Awawel kikilil Pungil Maram Ngely Malawas, Set Me Bwel,” which means understanding moon phases in relation to our natural resources. This theme encourages understanding of the different moon phases in the lives and surroundings of the people of the Mariana Archipelago.

Other GCA winners were Heleina Pangelinan, 2nd place (K-2 Division); June Park, 3rd Place (K-2 Division) and Jessemae Pagsinohin, 3rd Place (3-5 Division). The students winning art works were featured on the 2011 Fefaluwasch Lunar Calendar. The banquet and awarding of prizes was held at the Saipan World Resort on Jan. 28.The winners were accompanied by their Art teachers: Miriam Dilse and Esther Manzano.

The Western Pacific Regional Fishery Management Council is authorized to manage fisheries in the offshore waters of the US Pacific islands. It promotes environmentally responsible fishing in the CNMI, Guam, Hawaii, American Samoa and the U.S. Pacific remote islands.
