‘Give DOLI a chance’

ACTING Labor and Immigration Secretary Jack A. Tenorio appealed to the public to give his department a chance to reform and speed up its processes dealing with the CNMI labor force.

“Please give us a chance,” he said. “We are trying to address the problems.”

According to Tenorio, he is regularly holding meetings with DOLI officials and staff to assess the current situation and meet the needs of the public.

Tenorio said he is doing his best to help improve DOLI services. Letters of complaint, as far back as 1998, have been forwarded to Tenorio for action.

Tenorio said he is taking a “proactive stand” to deal with the problems.

An entomologist, Tenorio is a former lands and natural resources secretary.

At the confirmation hearing for his nomination last week, Tenorio surprised lawmakers when he asked them to reject his appointment.

Tenorio said he felt that his integrity was being compromised.

“Requests for favors, lawsuits, bribes, criticism, complaints, bickering, confrontation with angry clients, astronomic legal complexities, misbehaviors, consequences of wrong decisions, friends’ requests that do not comply with principles—the problems at DOLI are no longer new,” he said.

“Unfortunately, there is something new and that is me,” he added.
