Administration ‘upbeat’ on economy

ADMINISTRATION officials are confident that this year’s first quarter collection of business gross revenue and income taxes will help prevent the projected deficit spending this year.

“We are nothing but upbeat about the economy and we are very optimistic,” Gov. Juan N. Babauta said. “The revenue seems to be increasing and we hope that it continues to go in that direction,” he added.

“We are looking at a new number by the end of April,” Senior Policy Advisor Robert Schwalbach said.

He said the administration has been compiling data on weekly business collections and other fees.

The business community’s “real picture” during the January, February and March period will be known next month, he added.
