GOP outraises Democrats and Independents in gubernatorial campaign

FORMER Republican Gov. Ralph DLG Torres and his running-mate, former Senate Floor Leader Vinnie Sablan, raised $292,000 during their campaign last year, according to their campaign financial disclosure.

Of this amount, Torres and Sablan spent $276,051.

The Independent gubernatorial team of Arnold I. Palacios and David M. Apatang raised $199,316 and spent $153,361 while the Democratic Party’s Tina Sablan and Leila Staffler raised $102,871 and spent $98,986, according to their respective financial disclosures submitted to the Commonwealth Election Commission on Jan. 13, 2023 and Dec. 28, 2022 respectively.

The Republican tandem’s initial filing with the CEC on Jan. 12, 2023 was incomplete.

Their amended campaign financial disclosure that CEC received at 11:15 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 24, indicated that they raised $275,017 cash from fundraising events and $16,600 from general contributions for a total of $291,617.

Torres and Sablan finished first on election day, Nov. 8, 2022, but Palacios and Apatang beat them in the runoff on Nov. 25, 2022.
