MVA official: MOA with DLNR regarding tourist sites in the works

THE Marianas Visitors Authority and the Department of Lands and Natural Resources will soon sign a memorandum of agreement regarding CNMI tourist sites, MVA Managing Director Christopher Concepcion said.

“There is a draft that we received from the Attorney General’s Office,” he added.

“Essentially the MOA will be between MVA and DLNR, and there is a draft — we are reviewing it,” Concepcion said.

Under the law, DLNR and its Division of Parks and Recreation are responsible for the proper management and upkeep of the Commonwealth public parks, recreational facilities and tourist sites.

“We are tweaking it — we shared the draft with DLNR Secretary Sylvan Igisomar,” Concepcion said.

“He is in full support [of] having this type of cooperative arrangement, where MVA can come in with our expertise and support. Because they [DLNR] have legal jurisdiction on the tourist sites, we have to go through them,” Concepcion added.
