Governor approves DEQ’s request for 2 more personnel

In a letter to the Legislature, the governor said DEQ needs an accountant and an environment technician.

“The filling of these vacant positions is of vital importance for the efficient delivery of essential public services. Continuing appropriations are available for the full personnel cost associated with the vacancies,” he told the officers of the Legislature.

DEQ Director Frank Rabauliman said their agency needs an environment technician to do inspections, follow-up enforcement of environmental laws as well as respond to citizen complaints to violations of unpermitted septic system, questionable land-clearing activities, among other things.

He said the additional accountant for DEQ is needed to keep an up-to-date records on all their program activities.

“The employee will prepare summary budget reports on program activities to be submitted to the U.S. EPA, Region 9, on a quarterly basis,” part of his letter to the governor reads.
