GOVERNOR Benigno R. Fitial, who will be sworn in next month as the first re-elected CNMI chief executive
since 1985, is inviting
everyone to attend his inauguration on Jan. 11, 2010.
Fitial said he is extending
the invitation to CNMI Congressman Gregorio C. Sablan U.S. Interior Assistant Secretary Tony Babauta and even to this newspaper, whose reporter
was excluded by Lt. Gov. Eloy Inos’ legal counsel Teresa Kim in a press conference after they won the runoff election.
Fitial said a committee
has been formed to take care of the invitations,
but the venue for the inauguration has not been finalized yet.
In 2006, the governor was sworn in at Marianas High School.
The festivities, which included a fundraising golf tournament, concluded with fireworks at American Memorial Park and a lavish banquet at the Saipan World Resort attended by 500 people, including foreign dignitaries.
The government usually appropriates
$200,000 for the inauguration.
