Guam Child Protective Services swarmed with calls about baby

Baby Hope is in good condition and remains under temporary legal custody of the Child Protective Services. “She is doing well,” said Arlene Gadia, social services supervisor at CPS.

Gadia said her office has been receiving an overwhelming number of calls from people who are interested in adopting the baby girl, who was found naked with a crudely cut umbilical cord still hanging from her belly in front of an condo unit in Dai-Ichi complex.

“Whenever there is a situation like this there is always an increased interest in adoption,” said Gadia.

She welcomes the inquiries and encourages anyone interested to submit an application to either be licensed foster parents or to be considered as adoptive parents.

With approximately 150 children currently under CPS care, there is a pressing need for the orphans to find foster homes. “We are always looking for foster families,” Gadia said.

Baby Hope was found by tenant Seon Hui Pak.

Police are still looking for the parents or the mother of the child. Reports by witnesses say there may have been two women and a young man in a blue sedan around the condo unit that morning before the baby was found.
