Guam is hosting this year’s event which will also see the participation of Palau President Johnson Toribiong, Federated States of Micronesia President Emanuel Mori, Yap Gov. Sebastian Anefal, Kosrae Gov. Robert Weilbacher, Pohnpei Gov. John Ehsa, Chuuk Gov. Wesley Simina,  Marshall Islands President Juerlang Zedkaia and Minister of Transportation and Communications Kenneth Kedi.

Guam Gov. Felix Camacho said the island leaders will discuss issues about invasive species, regional recycling, transportation, tourism and health.

They will also talk about renewable energy, marine resources and other issues affecting the Pacific region.

“As chief executives of the islands in our region, we recognize that maintenance of healthy ecosystems and sustainable resource management are critical to the livelihoods of Pacific people,” Camacho said in a statement.

“And at the same time, our islands are extremely vulnerable when it comes to the effects of climate change and modern development. These biannual summits become increasingly crucial. They bring us together as island leaders to share similar challenges and find solutions that last well into the future,” he added.
