Spokesman for the Governor of Guam, Shawn Gumataotao, says gaining the accreditation should attract more health funds from the federal government and money to develop a new hospital.
He says while medical tourism has become popular in South East Asian nations; it is a competitive industry to enter.
Gumataotao has told Pacific Beat neighboring countries though would they benefit from the creation of a medical tourism hub in Guam.
“We feel that with a new hospital and accreditation it would greatly improve the services to our people and also seek the opportunities from the other islands to use Guam as a place to send their people to Manila and Philippines as they do today.”
